Gavin Newsom called Trump a “bumbling idiot” and indicated that the president might be suffering from dementia after Trump spoke about him today in the Oval Office

Gavin Newsom has dealt Donald Trump another blow in their ongoing feud. The California governor turned to X to respond after Trump attacked him by name during his Oval Office briefing today.
A visibly upset Trump said, “Newsom didn’t turn on the Pacific Northwest water. I asked for it to be turned on. If it had been turned on, the fires wouldn’t have started because all the sprinklers would have been working in the houses.”
Immediately afterward, Newsom shared a screenshot of a question he posed to an AI chatbot: “Do people with dementia repeat the same ridiculous lies and conspiracy theories over and over again?”
Newsom has recently attempted to exploit the president in a new way: by mocking him. The governor has begun emulating Trump’s usual writing style on social media, mocking him whenever he gets the chance.
While this approach may not be the most mature or diplomatic, it irks the president, who attacked Newsom today, seemingly unprovoked.
After Trump falsely claimed that Newsom had “blocked” water in the Pacific Northwest, the California governor’s office responded in kind.
In response to these comments, Newsom’s office wrote on X: “Unfortunately, the President of the United States is a coward and a fool. There was an abundance of water in Southern California (in fact, the state’s reservoirs are at historic lows!).”
“Water from the Pacific Northwest isn’t even reaching the state’s water systems. And the water he’s wasting isn’t even reaching the Los Angeles area!”
On X, user @LucienWolfe111 wrote: “Let’s be clear… Fires are raging, homes are burning, lives are being lost—and the debate is over who ‘left the water running’?”
Trump and Newsom have been accusing each other in recent months. Newsom sued the president after he deployed the National Guard to disperse peaceful protests in Los Angeles.
