Donald Trump revokes Secret Service protection for former vice president Kamala Harris.

US President Donald Trump has revoked the Secret Service protection granted to former Vice President Kamala Harris and her Democratic rival in the 2024 election.

A senior adviser to the former vice president confirmed the decision to NBC News, Sky News’ US partner.

“The Vice President is grateful to the US Secret Service for their professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to security,” the official said in a statement.

Vice presidents typically receive Secret Service protection for six months after leaving office.

This protection was extended for one year under President Joe Biden, reportedly until January 2026.

Former US presidents receive Secret Service protection for life.

In 2008, Congress passed a law authorizing the Secret Service to provide protection to former vice presidents, their spouses, and their children under the age of 16 for up to six months after the vice president leaves office.

However, a Secret Service official told NBC that although this is accurate, President Joe Biden signed an executive memorandum in January extending Harris’ protection period to 18 months.

Ms Harris, who lost the 2024 presidential election to Mr Trump, is due to start a book tour for her memoir, “107 Days”, shortly.

Mr Trump has also ended federal security protection for others, including former national security adviser John Bolton.

In March, he ended protection for Joe Biden’s children – Hunter and Ashley Biden.
